Will Smith is a Hancock

October 29, 2009 by Richie Webb · 1 Comment

will_smith_hancockYes, I loved Iron Man also. And of course Superman is wonderful and Spider Man and Bat Man are also superheroes. But what about a dude named Hancock? If you haven’t seen the surprise hit of 2008, Hancock, starring Will Smith, you definitely should go out and rent it now.

The movie was very much unlike any other superhero movie ever made. Usually, when we see superheroes, they are clean and well groomed (I always wondered how Superman is supposed to shave or take a haircut though, since his hair should be just as impervious to anything else, wouldn’t it automatically break any razor that was applied to it?), they always seem to know just the right thing to do and they always look dashing in their tight outfits.

It all makes me feel like just once, maybe we should have a superhero who is overweight. Well, with Will Smith in Hancock, we got the next best thing, or rather worse thing, or rather, well something different anyway. Hancock is a drunken, homeless bum who is also blessed with super powers. He goes and tries to be a hero, saving people, but then destroys half of downtown Los Angeles, causing people to hate him and to dread his arrival.

The man doesn’t have any clue who he is or why he’s there and he calls himself Hancock because a fan asks him to sign his “John Hancock.”

Then, one fine day, Will Smith as Hancock goes and rescues a man (Jason Bateman) who is a media consultant. The man is down on his luck himself, but sees a golden opportunity with Hancock. It’s a chance for him to rehabilitate the superhero and turn him into someone the public could love (earning himself a place at the side of the man of the hour of course).

I don’t want to give away the whole story if you haven’t seen the film yet, but trust me, it’s a great movie and well worth the rental to see Will Smith playing Hancock. He really is just wonderful in the film.

Oh, and for fans who have already seen it, there is still no word on the possibility of Will Smith in a new Hancock movie. He has indicated he wants to do it and the Internet Movie Database does say that the movie is in development with a 2012 release date, but there is simply no word beyond that. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Hancock 2 Movie Trailer

October 29, 2009 by Richie Webb · Leave a Comment

hancock_2_trailerWould you like to see the Hancock 2 movie trailer? So would I. So would an awful lot of people who loved the original Hancock, made in 2008. So far, we know very little however. Will Smith has declared he definitely would like to make a new Hancock movie and the Internet Movie Database does list a Hancock 2 as being “under development.” Variety also made some noise about it, claiming that Jason Bateman would reprise his role as the media advisor for Hancock in a new movie.

So what do we know about Hancock 2 though? And what could we expect to see in a possible Hanock 2 movie trailer? I’ll tell you right now: absolutely nothing (that is, regarding the first question. Regarding the second question, we can also expect to see nothing since no filming has been done, but we hope that won’t last long). Regarding the new movie, there is no information on a story line, there is no information on who will be acting in the movie, there is nothing on who will be directing the new epic and frankly, there is nothing to say it’s definitely happening. Just some fairly certain rumors.

But in spite of the incredible uncertainty surrounding any possible Hancock 2 movie trailer, the speculation from fans is rife as to what might be done with the new epic. There is a rumor going around (really more like wishful thinking of fans at the moment) that the new movie will focus on Hancock’s origins. Readers will recall that toward the end of the movie, we learned that Charlize Theron’s character was some kind of a twin to Will Smith’s Hancock and that the two of them had to be kept separate or they would lose all their powers. But we never really learned where they came from or even why they had to stay separate.

There are all kinds of possibilities for a new movie right there, where we could explore ancient enemies, maybe their people could come to rescue them, maybe we could see where they came from. Maybe they are even human beings who somehow got these god like creatures. For all we know, the decision could be made to tell us that the Greek gods gave them the power they possess. The sky really is the limit, and not just for Hancock, but for anyone who loves the movie and is looking forward to seeing the new one.

We’re just going to have to be patient and wait for the Hancock 2 movie trailer to come out and tell us more than we already know about the movie, which as of today, is really precious little, if anything at all.

Hancock 2 Release Date set for 2012

October 29, 2009 by Richie Webb · 3 Comments

will-smith-as-hancock-2So, after the breakout hit from 2008 Hancock, starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron, there has been talk on and off about the possibility for a Hancock 2 movie. Will Smith has declared that he is very in favor of the idea and he would like to see a movie made. The Internet Movie Database lists the movie as “in development” and scheduled for 2012 and Variety confirmed as well that the movie is being put together.

What do we know about Hancock 2 though? I’ll tell you right now: absolutely nothing. There is no information on a story line, there is no information on who will be acting in the movie, there is nothing on who will be directing the new epic and frankly, there is nothing to say it’s definitely happening. Just some fairly certain rumors.

That said, we can certainly speculate about what a Hancock 2 might include. Readers will recall that Hancock was an unlikely hero played in the movie by Will Smith. He would go and rescue people, but then cause tremendous amounts of damage. He was often disheveled, often drunk and often cursed. Not exactly Superman. (Then again, while I always loved Super Man, he was a little bit unbelievable. Even Lois Lane in the first movie laughed when he said he was here to fight for truth, justice and the American Way, saying “you’re going to be fighting every member of congress.”) But then he got himself a publicity agent and things started to turn around for him. He started to do things the right way, to be polite, to show up not drunk and not to cause so much damage. Along came Charlize Theron and he became weaker. It turned out the two of them were twins and they were separated at some point. It was only when they were apart that each had super powers. Otherwise, they were weaker than even an ordinary human being.

So getting back to a Hancock 2, the possibilities could include a look at what made Hancock who he is, in other words going back in time 3,000 years. Or maybe we could take a look at what some super enemy of Hancock’s might be like. Perhaps Hancock finally decides he’d like to settle down and find his own Lois Lane. How would they deal with the children? Would the children turn out to be superheroes?

Still another possibility for a Hancock 2 would be the possibility of talking about where they came from. Maybe they could show us Hancock’s people coming to get him after he has finally settled into life here on Earth. We don’t know yet, but we do know this: Hancock 2 should be totally awesome!

Watched the Hancock Extended Trailer?

July 12, 2008 by Richie Webb · Leave a Comment

I’ve watched the Hancock extended trailer, and back then even if the movie wasn’t out yet I was already excited to watch it because the scenes in the trailer seemed nice. It gave me an idea as to what to expect from the full length film the moment it hits the big screens in my local cinema or movie house. Through the trailer I was able to make sure when the movie starts showing in the local theaters and it even told me that Will Smith will be starring as the lead role in the movie.

Generally this is what short video clips such as the Hancock trailer are supposed to do. Trailers are short video clips made up of a collection of scenes from a full length film, whether important or transitory, that are presented in a way that it gives the expecting audience a taste of what is in store for them when they finally get to watch the full version of the movie. Most trailers are short but they already give a lot of information on the movie, which attracts audience to watch it. Put quite simply, trailers are advertisements of movies that have been recently produced and will be available for public consumption soon.

But still, the trailer is not intended to replace the movie entirely. As a matter of fact, there are even people who watch the movie Hancock without even having to watch the trailer in the first place and they still enjoy it anyway.

Hancock 2?

July 5, 2008 by Richie Webb · 13 Comments

Is there going to be a Hancock 2? Well, it is not a surprise for a movie to have a sequel, most especially if the first movie is doing great in terms of its box office success. For the movie Hancock, the Independence Day viewing date strategy may have been a very good scheme to lift the movie’s gross up to the stratosphere. This movie by Sony, which showcases the acting prowess of Will Smith may be his 8th consecutive $100 million movie, a feat achieved by nobody else not even Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise. Hence, a part 2 may be close at hand.

The first Hancock anti-hero movie had practically left open a chance for another follow-up film. It is the story of a superhero that everybody loves to hate who is saving the world whether you like it or not. He is the careless, drunk and filthy Hancock, the exact opposite of your typical superhero who loves to save the world but with expensive consequences.

With its “untypical” concept and the resolution of that concept at the end of the movie, the film really leaves its viewers with a weird feeling and maybe a puzzled mind. The plot twists, which started from the later half of the movie created more questions, resolved fewer answers, and maybe made the audience a little bit annoyed. Although considerable amounts of comedy can save this action flick, it seems unavoidable that not everything will make sense in the end. Therefore, it is up for the men of Sony Pictures to produce a Hancock 2, who now have their fingers crossed hoping that this weekend’s earnings will continue to make the movie a hit.
